Job description

Prof. Huiwang Ai’s Lab in the Department of Molecular Physiology and Biological Physics at the University of Virginia seeks postdoctoral research associates or research scientists.

Lab website:
https://med.virginia.edu/ai-lab/

The focus of our lab is the development of molecular biosensors that provide insights into cellular and organismal signaling. We employ state-of-the-art techniques such as directed evolution, fluorescence imaging, bioluminescence imaging, synthetic chemistry, genetic screening, and mass spectrometry to unravel complex biological pathways related to redox biology, metabolism, and neuronal activity. Furthermore, we explore the application of protein-based tools in live cells and rodent models to better understand pathophysiology and develop innovative therapies for conditions like diabetes, Alzheimer’s disease, and cancer.

Position 1:

We hope to hire one person with expertise in protein engineering, molecular and cell biology, and/or electrochemistry. This person will work on projects that aim to develop novel fluorescent, bioluminescent, or electrochemical biosensors.

Position 2:

We hope to hire one person to characterize the developed biosensors in animal models and use the new tools to understand questions related to neurobiology and Alzheimer’s disease. Previous experience in handling mice or using mice as a model organism is preferred.

Position 3:

We hope to hire one person with expertise in chemical biology, protein engineering, cancer biology, or CAR-T. This person will work on a new project that aims to develop new therapies to treat cancer.

The postdoctoral researchers will participate in a diversity of relevant lab projects and be expected to attend and participate in laboratory meetings and seminars, national and international conferences, as well as work collaboratively with other lab members and collaborators.
