A post-doctoral research opportunity is available in the Department of Plant Pathology at the University of California, Davis. The incumbent will focus on studying molecular plant virology, virus-induced gene silencing, and viral vectors for grapevine plants.In addition to conducting research, the incumbent will also participate in training undergraduate student researchers, preparing manuscripts and grant reports, and cooperating with other team members and collaborators.
Candidates will be evaluated based on how well their background and interests prepare them for plant virology research. Some experience with big data bioinformatics is preferred. Basic qualifications (required at time of application)Ph.D. in Plant Pathology, Microbiology, Plant or Insect Virology or a closely related field
Preferred qualifications
- Virology experience (experience with large omic datasets is a plus)
- Molecular biological laboratory experience
- Demonstrated ability and desire to work both independently and collaboratively
- Strong publication record commensurate with experience
- Excellent written and oral communication skills, along with motivation to publish results and present at scientific meetings
- The position requires significant experience in virology, insect-microbe interactions, experience in working with plants and in maintaining insect colonies, and strong analytical ability. Expertise in molecular virology, biology, and cloning will be required. Experience in bioinformatics will also be a preferred qualification.
